Adult Beginning Chinese (New) The course is for adults who have never studied Chinese or have a limited knowledge of the language. It teaches basic Chinese pronunciation, vocabulary and sentence structures that help to develop students’ speaking, reading, and writing skills of Chinese at a basic level. Students are expected to learn the most frequently used words for basic conversation.
Children Beginning Chinese (New) The course is for children (age 6 to 12) who have never studied Chinese or have a limited knowledge of the language. It teaches basic Chinese pronunciation, vocabulary and sentence structures that help to develop students’ speaking, reading, and writing skills of Chinese at a basic level. Students are expected to learn the most frequently used words for basic conversation.
Adult Beginning Chinese (continuation of the Spring 2023 class) The course is for adults who have studied Chinese for one semester or have a limited knowledge of the language. It teaches basic Chinese pronunciation, vocabulary and sentence structures that help to develop students’ speaking, reading, and writing skills of Chinese at a basic level. Students are expected to learn the most frequently used words for basic conversation. Learners may have reached HSK level one.
Elementary Chinese for Children (continuation of the Spring 2023 class) The course is designed for children ages 5 through 12 who have studied Chinese for one semester or have some knowledge of the language. Basic words and sentences will be taught through fun activities such as songs and games. Students will become familiar with Chinese language and culture and develop an interest in learning a new language.
Children intermediate level Chinese (B) (continuation of the Spring 2023 class) The course is a continuation of the Beginning Chinese I, and for students who have had an introductory level of Chinese pronunciation, vocabulary and sentences. It focuses on developing skills in reading, writing and more sophisticated conversation. Chinese culture and history will be integrated in the course. Participants may have reached around HSK level 2.
Children upper intermediate level Chinese (B) (continuation of the Spring 2023 class) The course is a continuation of the Intermediate Chinese, and for students who have had a satisfactory level of Chinese pronunciation, vocabulary and sentences. It focuses on developing skills in reading, writing and more sophisticated conversation. Chinese culture and history will be integrated in the course. Participants may have reached around HSK level 3-4.
Advanced Chinese (continuation of the Spring 2023 class) The course is designed for children who can listen and speak Chinese fairly well and have learnt Chinese either from an institution or from parents for a number of years and want to expand their skills in reading and writing Chinese. This course focuses on Chinese reading, especially some classic and modern Chinese articles. Cultural elements and Chinese literature will be incorporated into the course. Students are expected to be familiar with the writing of Chinese characters, have more knowledge of modern and classic Chinese literature and develop skills in Chinese writing. Participants may have reached HSK level 4 or above.
